Change

It seems I was in the middle of discussing the Transtheoretical Model of Change, so this post should be about the next stage in that cycle, which is actually making the change. However, that's not what I'm going to talk about next. As a matter of fact, I never did finish the series of articles on change and for me that's perfect; and ironic!

So today I want to share with you a poem (which is also a song) by Leonard Cohen. I first heard about Leonard Cohen from Byron Katie. I'm glad to have "met" him, and I love learning more about him through his poetry. So then, a paean to Love, real Love, what we are and not even that.

Love Itself - by Leonard Cohen

The light came through the window,
Straight from the sun above,
And so inside my little room
There plunged the rays of Love.

In streams of light I clearly saw
The dust you seldom see,
Out of which the Nameless makes
A Name for one like me.

I'll try to say a little more:
Love went on and on
Until it reached an open door --
Then Love Itself was gone.

All busy in the sunlight
The flecks did float and dance,
And I was tumbled up with them
In formless circumstance.

Then I came back from where I'd been
My room, it looked the same --
But there was nothing left between
The Nameless and the Name.

I'll try to say a little more:
Love went on and on
Until it reached an open door -
Then Love Itself was gone.
